Love & Gelato

Love & Gelato
By Jenna Evans Welch

Love & Gelato summary:

"I made the wrong choice."

Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn't in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is go back home.

But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires her, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself.

People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.

Picture this: a beautiful sunny sky, the picturesque streets of Italy, and a delicious looking scoop of gelato. Now pair that with a gorgeous love interest, a story that comes straight from the heart, and a cast of the most lovable characters you can think of, and you've got yourself an incredible novel. I absolutely adored this idyllic book full of heart, and you will too! (Seriously. Go read it!)

Content Warnings: There's a few mild content warnings that sensitive readers might not enjoy, but all of it is handled very well. There's cancer, medical content, and death, as well as smoking and underage drinking. There's also mild sexual content and innuendo, with a short but possibly unpleasant scene for sensitive readers of sexual assault on the main character. There's also mentioned rape, but it's telling the history of a statue in Italy, and it's not in that context at all. I'd recommend this book for ages 14+. Happy reading!
